Dr. Manoj Durairaj an ex Vincentian has done MS General surgery from AFMC(Gold Medal) and M.Ch. in Cardiac Surgery at AIIMS, New Delhi.

Dr. Manoj is the first Cardiac Surgeon in Pune to be elected as Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).

He is the Executive Member of the Indian Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons

And Society of Heart Failure and transplantation. He is also the Joint Secretary of Indian Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.

He is the Director of Cardiac Surgery at Marian Cardiac Centre located at East Street Pune Camp. Dr Durairaj is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Ruby Hall Clinic, N M Wadia hospital, Jehangir Hospital and Sahyadri Hospital, Pune.

Dr Manoj and his team have successfully performed the First Heart Transplant in Pune. He has pioneered the heart transplant programme in Pune by establishing 2 centres for Heart Transplantation. As the Programme Director of the Department of Heart Transplantation at Sahyadri Hospital he performed the First Heart Transplant in Nagpur in June 2019.

Recently, Dr Manoj and his team performed the first left ventricular assist device in Pune, wherein the left portion of the heart is replaced with a mechanical pump. It is an alternative to heart transplant, in selected patients.

Dr Durairaj completed his Fellowship under Professor Brian Buxton, University of Melbourne in the year 2005 and returned to Pune. Dr Durairaj is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr Manoj is the first Indian surgeon, to have performed paediatric cardiac surgery in Nigeria (as a part of a National award winning initiative). He also led a team to Sanaa, Yemen and performed the first off pump coronary surgery in Al Thawara hospital, Yemen. Dr. Durairaj has 9 publications in international journals which includes being a co author of a book chapter in an international textbook of Cardiac Surgery.

Dr Durairaj runs a charitable trust which has helped hundreds of children undergo free open heart surgery including heart transplant surgery.

Dr Manoj was awarded the Dr BB Dixit award from B J Medical College in February 2018.

For his charitable work and for starting the heart transplant programme in Pune, the Mayor of Pune awarded and felicitated Dr Manoj as an “outstanding citizen of Pune” during the Republic Day Awards 2018 of the Pune Municipal Corporation.
